The beech chapel of La Verna Sanctuary.jpg

Just outside the sanctuary of La Verna in Tuscany, inside the Casentinesi forests, there is the beech chapel. It is a small stone construction, rather small but with a large courtyard, which seems to have been abandoned.

It is not gorgeous, like the rest of the structures here, but it has a great history for the pilgrims who reach these areas. Right here, in fact, the story said that during the thirteenth century, Christ appear to the Blessed Giovanni della Verna, a franciscan friar who spent his days here.

I took this photograph on a windy and snowy winter day making us understand in what extreme conditions the first Franciscan friars lived on this mountain. I recommend anyone who comes to Tuscany to visit this sanctuary and immerse yourself in the powerful spiritual energy of these ancient forests.
